A guided tour of New Hall which includes the whole site and interior of the chapel. New Hall was once Henry VIII's Palace of Beaulieu. It became a school in 1799, providing a home for an establishment exiled from Liege after the French Revolution. You will need to make your own way there; the entrance is in White Hart Lane CM3 3HS and parking is available at the site. The cost of the tour and refreshments is £10, payable in advance. | Turner Contemporary Gallery, Margate |
| Visit to the Turner Contemporary Gallery, Margate, where there is a special exhibition entitled “Self”.
An extract from the gallery website (www.turnercontemporary.org) reveals that:
“This exhibition reflects on artists' self-portraits from Sir Anthony van Dyck's last Self-portrait of 1640-1, recently saved for the nation, to Louise Bourgeois. Over 100 works, most of which are from the National Portrait Gallery London, are brought together for an expansive look at the artists’ self.
Historical and contemporary artists sit side by side, including Sir Anthony van Dyck, Mary Beale, Louise Bourgeois, John Constable, Tracey Emin, Jason Evans, Lucian Freud, Antony Gormley, Damien Hirst, David Hockney, Angelica Kauffmann, Sarah Lucas, Gillian Wearing, Yinka Shonibare MBE, JMW Turner and Andy Warhol.”
The gallery itself was mentioned in our 2014 lecture on architecture.
This will probably be followed by a visit to Walmer Castle, Deal, which is to be confirmed.

| Trip to Dublin |
| A 5-day trip to Dublin from 5 to 9 October 2014, staying at the Academy Hotel in central Dublin.
The itinerary begins with Ryanair flights to Ireland from Stansted. On day two we visit the National Gallery, Trinity College to see the book of Kells, and have a guided tour of the Hugh Lane Gallery. We visit the Wicklow Mountains, including Powerscourt Gardens, and Glendalough. On day four we visit Dublin Castle for the state apartments and Chester Beatty Library, and the following morning we visit Dublin’s gardens before returning home.

| Visit to the Historic Houses of Derbyshire |
| A two-day visit to Derbyshire, on 24 & 25 July 2014, when we will be visiting Stamford, Hardwick Hall and Tissington Hall, a beautiful Jacobean mansion. We also visit The National Trust’s Sudbury Hall where the National Trust Museum of Childhood is housed. We will be staying overnight at the 4-star Belfry Hotel on the outskirts of Nottingham.

| A Capital Day Out! |
| A day out in London. We will have a guided tour of Guildhall and the rare opportunity to call at the Great Hall and see the colourful and impressive assembly of the Court of Common Council. After lunch (not included), we will go to the Museum of London Docklands, which traces the history of the port and its commerce, back to Roman times.
NB Update, 23 April 2014:
Due to lack of demand for places, the arrangements for this visit have been changed. Anyone interested in joining the guided tour of the Guildhall should make their own way there, and contribute a share of the cost of the guided tour on the day. More information is available from Anne Oxley.
