Church Recorders are Art Society volunteers who make records of the contents of our national churches, thereby promoting the recognition and preservation of the rich artistic heritage to be found in places of worship.

Our active and enthusiastic Church Recording group is currently recording St. Christopher's Church, Willingale.  Churches already recorded include St Giles’ Mountnessing, St Mary’s Shenfield, St Mary’s Fryerning, St Edmund and St Mary’s Ingatestone, All Saints’ Hutton village, All Saints' Writtle and All Saints’ Church, Doddinghurst and St. Mary's in Buttsbury. The items are described in detail and their history researched. All the material is then compiled into a book illustrated with photographs and drawings. This is presented to the church and copies are sent to various national institutions, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum.

You don’t have to be a full Art Society member to join the Church Recording group. If you are interested in taking part, contact us using the email link.
